Jennie Baranczyk Hired as Oklahoma Women’s Basketball Head Coach

Jennie Baranczyk will be the one to fill Sherri Coale’s shoes.

After spending nine seasons as the head women’s basketball coach at Drake, Baranczyk has accepted her next challenge, taking the same position at Oklahoma.

“It is 100% the perfect opportunity,” Jennie Baranczyk told Tommy Birch of the Des Moines Register on Saturday. “It’s the perfect fit. But it was definitely not one that I was definitely looking for. I’m not running away from anything, but I’m running to something incredible.”

Baranczyk took the Bulldogs to three NCAA Tournaments (2017, 2018, 2019) and three WNIT appearances (2015, 2016, 2021). She compiled a 192-96 overall record with six-straight 20-win seasons from the 2014-15 through 2019-20 seasons. Baranczyk also led Drake to a 49-game Missouri Valley win streak with two perfect 18-0 conference seasons in 2016-17 and 2017-18 and a 17-1 mark in 2018-19. Her final MVC record is 123-39 and she finishes with four regular season MVC crowns and two MVC Tournament championships.

Before becoming the head coach at Drake, Jennie Baranczyk spent 2004 to 2012 as an assistant coach at Kansas State, Marquette, and Colorado. She began her coaching career shortly after finishing up her playing days at Iowa, where she was a three-time All-Big Ten player (2002, 2003, 2004) and graduated as the only Hawkeye ever to be ranked in the top 10 in points, rebounds, assists, steals, and blocks.

Baranczyk replaces Sherri Coale at Oklahoma, who led the Sooners for 25 years before retiring last month.
