WVU men's basketball could complete an epic turnaround with a Final Four bid after finishing below-.500 and last in the Big 12 in 2018-19.

WVU Basketball Could Complete Epic Turnaround with Final Four

The whole international pandemic thing that’s going down forced the 2020 March Madness to be cancelled. Or so you thought.

The NCAA is skipping this year’s tournament at all levels, but /r/CollegeBasketball has sponsored its own alternative Men’s Division I tournament: Reddit March Madness. Streamed exclusively on YouTube and executed with a college basketball video game from almost 15 years ago, this year’s March Madness is sure to be unpredictable and full of really dumb turnovers.

Nothing But Nylon is providing the exclusive* coverage of the event from the bedroom of our headquarters. Don’t miss any of the real* quotes and bone-breaking analysis that you’ll only find here because of how exclusive* this content is.

Bob Huggins Speaks about West Virginia’s Amazing Turnaround

Considering the brutal 15-21 (4-14) season last year that ended in a last-place finish in the Big 12, a return to the Elite Eight exactly one decade after West Virginia’s reached there last time couldn’t be much sweeter.

West Virginia head coach Bob Huggins, who has made some serious headlines during Reddit March Madness, was last seen mooning the media and smoking a cigar indoors. I spoke with him in an exclusive, one-on-one interview, his first time speaking with anyone since the Villanova game Friday.

“Look, boy, I like you. You mean well,” he told me. “But you gotta quit with all these damn questions, pokin’ and proddin’ all around. I have a team to run here. I ain’t never won a national championship. I got a shot here, and I don’t plan to let you keep me from it. So, go on, get.”

That concluded my exclusive, one-on-one interview with Huggins.

Although that’s all I could get from the WVU basketball coach, so I turned to some players for more meat on the team. Fortunately, Derek Culver is not shy.

“We’ve spent so many days working individually and together as a team on what we knew we would need to get to this point,” Culver said. “It feels incredible to be this close to the Final Four. It feels like I could just reach out and taste it. To be this close, it would be devastating to lose now. I mean, stab in the heart, crush me and send me into a downward spiral I might never recover from level of devastation. It’s scary. Failure is scary.”

The state of West Virginia would almost certainly drink itself into oblivion if a trip to the Final Four really did happen for WVU basketball, which would only be the third time ever that the men’s team made it there. There is a good probability that will still happen anyway.

“We have been working to expand our drunk tanks and get extra pumps to J.W. Ruby Memorial Hospital in preparation for WVU basketball this week,” said Morgantown police chief Hobart McDonald’s. “I can’t wait to get West Virginia wild.”

West Virginia will take on No. 8 seed LSU in the Midwest Regional Final in Detroit at 8:15 p.m. EST. Be sure to follow along with Nothing But Nylon’s comprehensively exclusive* coverage of the 2020 Reddit March Madness.
